What does Free Repair Service mean?

The most sustainable thing is always to extend the lifespan.

That is why we offer our Free Repair Service to everyone who has invested in a Container. Regardless of her age. Yes, even if the 2-year right to make a complaint has expired. Free return shipping. Free repair – both materials and working time.

Daily use of your Kontainer with all that “overweight” entails, wear and tear on leather and metal parts, will naturally put her to the test. She always does her best to live up to her name, but it can happen that a metal part breaks, a seam breaks, or she just needs a “refreshment” (especially if she’s a suede lady).

Repairs can be expensive, where to go with it? And is it even worth repairing? We understand that it can seem overwhelming. We would like to take responsibility and make it easy for you to extend the life of your Kontainer. She deserves it. Our environment deserves it, and it is the only thing responsible for our planet.

Sustainability is primarily about consuming less and making our purchases last as long as possible. In short: Buy less, choose well, make it last. We want to support that.

What is No Waste!?

No Waste! Offers are our way of elimanating otherwise wasted bags. Every time we receive a new production batch from Portugal or have an excess of samples, we inspect the quality. We gather the fine ladies who don’t meet our expections. When we have too much piled up, we offer them to you at a very rare reduced price online. You can find an overview of the current No Waste! Most often it is Kontainers with minor beauty flaws, sample bags used for testing or a photoshoot. Indeed they deserve a second chance to live a beautiful life. It could be a stitching or cutting of the leather gone a little off direction.

Most often you will not notice if you don’t know. It’s simply our attention to details and extremely high expectations that makes her a factory second.

We wish to eliminate waste

We have often thought that what a shame, that these perfectly well-functioning Kontainers don’t get the life they deserve. They are simply too good to be wasted.

It is only natural that mistakes happen during a production where so many human hands are involved. It is also natural that show pieces are necessary to exhibit at fairs and events. And of course we test the bags before selling them to you. However it is very unnatural for us, that these Kontainers should go to waste. We wish for them to live a beautiful life like their full-priced peers.

As part of our sustainability strategy, we wish to eliminate waste and make them available to all of you who have an open home and can see through these minor beauty marks. Who will cherish them despite they are not perfect. In return we will offer them to you at remarkably reduced prices.

Sustainable certified leather

Even though cow leather is a by-product of the meat industry, and in terms of this it has a small hint of a sustainable angle, we set higher demands. When it comes to sustainability and leather, for us it is mainly about two considerations. A consideration for the environment and the well-being of the animal.

For the past 5 years, we have collaborated with the same Italian leather tannery, which supplies us with the softest, most beautiful and nicely scented leather. The cows are bred in Europe and follow EU legislation. Not least, the leather tannery has an extensive focus on the environment and personnel during the manufacture of the leather.

Among other certifications, the Italian tannery has been awarded the following recognitions:

CO2-neutral. The tannery has achieved carbon neutrality with respect to direct and indirect emissions. They have invested in a series of initiatives to reduce greenhouse gas emissions, starting from the optimization of the production process by making it more efficent through the use of solar panels, lower water consumption, the reduction of chemical products used. Electricity is only purchased from certified renewable resources. The residual impact is elimated by joining several United Nations carbon offset projects that address the climate emergency.

LWG Gold-rated. The certification recognizes the use of good ethical, environmental and safety practices in the manufacture of leather. The Leather Working Group (LWG) is made up of brands, retailers, product manufacturers, leather manufacturers, chemical suppliers and technical experts working together to develop an environmental management protocol specifically within the leather manufacturing industry. ISO 14001:2015. Environmental management standard. The Italian leather tannery meets the strict requirements of this environmental standard. Read more.

Green L.I.F.E. Project. The tannery is part of this EU project, which aims to minimize the environmental impact of leather tanning. Read more.

100% Oeko-Tex cotton lining (colorful of course)

A very special signature of Kontainer is the unique colourful printed pattern inside of each bag. We always use 100% cotton certified according to the standard Oeko-Tex 100. This ensures that the textiles have been tested free of harmful chemicals by the Danish Technological Institute. You can read more about the requirements for the standard here.

Ever since the beginning of 2014, the colorful cotton lining has been our signature. It gives a very special feeling when you open your bag and see that the inside is note just a black boring hole. In addition to putting a smile on your face, the lighter lining also makes it easier to find your keys and other small things in your bag.

We continuously change the cotton print with other colour variants, so if you want to ensure a match between, for example, your Workbag and Wallet, we recommend that you buy them together.

Made with pride in Portugal

We have chosen to exclusively produce our Kontainers in Portugal. In a small factory just outside Porto, the most skilled craftsmen work to make our designs a reality. A collaboration that makes us incredibly proud, both when we see the quality of their craftsmanship and when we visit the factory.

All Kontainers are designed from scratch from the office in Vejle, Denmark. From the first sketch to sewing the first sample bag. After this, the collaboration between our manufacturer and our own designer starts with refining and testing the sample until it is the very best version.

The process from design idea to the first finished Kontainer being ready typically takes a whole year. There are many details along the way and purchases to be made, from the choice of leather, lining, zips and metal fittings to e.g. packaging.

Nothing is accidental when it comes to a Kontainer. We simply love to be nerdy-nerdy about the details ensuring the best possible quality.

We are not perfect, but we strive everyday to be

Every Kontainer is packed nicely and with care from our warehouse in Vejle. We do our best to always find the best and most environmentally friendly packaging for your Kontainer. We admit that we are not perfect, but we try hard every day to do better than yesterday.

Made in the USA and certified with SFI (Sustainable Forestry Initiative, American counterpart to the FSC label).

Cardboard box
Made in Denmark from 70% recycled paper and certified with FSC.

Sticker
Made in Denmark from 100% recycled paper.

Shipping pocket
Made in Germany, 100% glassine paper (no plastic).

Plastic shipping bags (for our extra large shipments)
Made in Denmark from 100% recycled plastic (LDPE plastic which is converted into carbon dioxide and water when the bag is disposed of in an incineration plant). Contains no heavy metals or similar environmentally harmful substances.

Brochures and postcards
Printed in Denmark on FSC-certified paper. The printers meet the requirements for the Nordic Ecolabel.

Copy paper
Made in the Netherlands. Certified with FSC mix and marked with the EU flower.

Gift wrap
Made in Denmark from 100% recycled paper fibres. FSC certified.

Gift ribbon
Made in China from collected plastic bottles (PET plastic), which means plastic bottles from e.g. soft drinks.

Dust bag
Sewn in Italy from 100% polyester. It is high on our wish list to replace the material with a clearly better environmental choice, such as Oeko-Tex 100 or GOTS-certified cotton. Unfortunately, it has not been an option for us yet due to the low units we purchase.

From 2022, we have chosen to phase out the large amount of plastic bags that were previously used to wrap the bags in when they are sent from our production in Portugal to Denmark. Instead, your Kontainer is now packed directly in the dust bag (if you find that your dust bag is slightly wrinkled, that’s why – it can easily be ironed away if you wish).
